Our Hospital

The Cape Breton Regional Hospital touches all of our lives. Whether we are undergoing surgery, taking our child for an x-ray or rushing to the emergency department with a sick loved one – our hospital is always there for us.
The Regional Hospital opened its doors in 1995, after a decade of hard work and generous support from our community. Today, it is the second largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia.
As the major referral centre for Cape Breton, the Regional Hospital treats more than 100,000 cases each year, providing acute and trauma care, emergency services, clinical services, and surgery. The hospital includes the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, MRI Services, inpatient and out-patient Mental Health and Addiction Services, a Pediatrics Unit, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, a Renal Dialysis Unit and more.
The Regional Hospital has a dedicated staff of more than 1,800 health care providers who work with 270 hospital and community-based physicians.
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital is also a teaching hospital. As a proud partner with the Dalhousie School of Medicine’s Family Medicine Program, the Regional Hospital trains and recruits many new doctors each year.
