September 29th, 2011: Cape Breton Cares Radiothon Cracks Half Million Dollar Mark

Sydney (NS), September 29th, 2011 – Cape Bretoners turned out in full force to support the Cape Breton Cares Radiothon.  Throughout the live 12 hour broadcast donations flooded in surpassing last year’s record total.  The final tally announced at 6pm was an astounding $508,428.86.

“It seems almost impossible to believe that we could raise more than half a million dollars to support healtcare in Cape Breton”, said Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation CEO Barbara Stead-Coyle.  “It was an amazing 12 hours that would not have been possible without our generous supporters, and the amazing support from all Cape Bretoners. Thank you to all the volunteers, prize and food sponsors, entertainers, and donors for making September 29th 2011 a special day.”

In four years the Radiothon has raised more than $1.5M to support specialized care at the Regional Hospital.  Funds from this year’s Radiothon will support: Cape Breton Cancer Centre, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics, the An Cala Paleative Care Unit, Renal Dialasis Unit, the Harriss Emergency Department, the Intensive Care Unit and other priority areas of the hospital.

Golf For Dad – In Support of Prostate Cancer

 

Over the course of their lives, one in seven Canadian men will develop prostate cancer. And one in 27 of them, will die from it.

On June 8th, 2012, Golf for Dad – in support of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, will take place at The Lakes Golf Club, in Ben Eoin. Grab your favorite golf buddies and come out for a great golf day, all in support of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. Included in your package is a pre game reception the night before the tournament, lunch and a BBQ on the course with a full steak dinner to end the day. 

All funds raised will be donated to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, in support of Prostate Cancer.

The 5th Annual Cape Breton Cares Radiothon will take place on September 27th, 2012.

Last year, our community came together to raise more than $506,000 at the Cape Breton Cares Radiothon. Thanks to your support, we were able to purchase critical equipment and fund upgrades for departments throughout the Regional Hospital. Click here for more information on Radiothon.
