August 29, 2011: The Regional Hospital Foundation names the Catherine Anne Godwin Patient Support Room
For Immediate Release: August 29th, 2011
Sydney, NS – On August 16th, 2011, family members and close friends gathered at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre to celebrate the official naming of the Catherine Anne Godwin Patient Support Room. This naming is in celebration and recognition of Godwin’s generous donations to the Regional Hospital Foundation’s Cape Breton Cares Campaign and the Cancer Patient Care Fund.
Pat Bates, a friend of Catherine’s, says: “Catherine, always a loyal and passionateCapeBretoner, manifested her support through volunteer work within the community’s cultural and educational organizations; and through her generous and tangible contributions toward the work of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.”
Godwin, who was a patient at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, passed away in January 2010.
“We are so grateful to Catherine for her significant contributions to both the Cape Breton Cares Campaign and the Cancer Patient Care Fund. Her generosity will make a difference to thousands of cancer patients every year,” says Barbara Stead-Coyle, CEO, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. “Catherine supported many groups and charities and her generosity will impact her community for many years to come.”
In May 2010, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation reached its fundraising goal of $5.5. million for the Cape Breton Cares Campaign in support of the Cancer Centre expansion and state-of-the-art equipment for both the Cancer Centre and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Regional Hospital.
The Cancer Patient Care Fund provides financial assistance to patients of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre for medications or other illness-related expenses. Since 2005, more than $340,000 has been distributed to more than 900 patients in need.
Since 1991, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, in partnership with the community, has raised more than $15 million to purchase medical equipment that has dramatically reduced wait times and provided an increased menu of services – closer to home.
