February 24, 2011: Regional Hospital Foundation presents Caring Spirit Award to Casino Nova Scotia
Sydney, NS – On Wednesday, February 23rd, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation presented employees of Casino Nova Sydney with a Caring Spirit Award in celebration of their commitment to enhancing health care in Cape Breton.
Casino Nova Scotia (CNS) Sydney is a major supporter of the Regional Hospital Foundation and as such has named it their charity of choice. Aside from volunteering at many events, CNS also organizes fundraisers in support of the Foundation, including Casino Roy-Isle, a pancake breakfast and summer concerts. CNS also participates in a payroll deduction program and sponsors various Foundation events. In total, CNS has raised an incredible $37,000 in support of the Foundation.
“Casino Nova Scotia employees are proud of the money and support we have been able to provide the Cape Breton Hospital Foundation,” says Fletcher Hunston, AGM of Casino Nova Scotia. “We look forward to additional opportunities to strengthen our partnership and increase the support we can give the Hospital Foundation and the people of Cape Breton.”
The Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation launched the Caring Spirit Award in 2008 to recognize individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the Foundation and the community. Past recipients include: Tom MacNeil, Medical Social Worker at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre; Cape Breton Radio; Mr. Irving Schwartz, Cape Breton Cares Campaign Chair.
“Casino Nova Scotia is truly a great partner to the Regional Hospital Foundation,” shares Barbara Stead-Coyle, Foundation CEO. “Their management and team go above and beyond to ensure quality health care is available here in Cape Breton. For that we can’t thank them enough.”
Since 1991, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation in partnership with the community has raised more than $15M to purchase medical equipment that has dramatically reduced wait times and provided an increased menu of services – closer to home.

Golf For Dad – In Support of Prostate Cancer
Over the course of their lives, one in seven Canadian men will develop prostate cancer. And one in 27 of them, will die from it.
On June 8th, 2012, Golf for Dad – in support of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, will take place at The Lakes Golf Club, in Ben Eoin. Grab your favorite golf buddies and come out for a great golf day, all in support of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. Included in your package is a pre game reception the night before the tournament, lunch and a BBQ on the course with a full steak dinner to end the day.
All funds raised will be donated to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, in support of Prostate Cancer.
