Your Donations Keep more Cape Bretoners Home for Care

When you support the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, you are helping purchase the equipment medical staff need to provide the best care to their patients. You also increasing the level of specialized services available at the Regional Hospital, such as cancer and palliative care.

Since 1991, in partnership with our community, the Regional Hospital Foundation has raised more than $15 million to purchase equipment and complete enhancements to the Regional Hospital.

Some of the past projects our community has made possible include:

• The expansion of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, which now provides radiation therapy to 97% of cancer patients at home in Cape Breton
• The creation of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, which is a comforting place for patients who need pain management or end of life care
• The purchase of a $600,000 state-of-the-art monitoring system for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which allows doctors and nurses to properly monitor the more 300 pre-mature and ill babies who rely on this Unit every year
• The purchase of a MRI and Bone Densitometer for the Cape Breton Regional Hospital

We are well aware of the sensitivities around the cost of fundraising. That is why we, the Regional Hospital Foundation, continuously monitor our costs to ensure that we are well within the Canadian Revenue Agency and industry standards for fundraising expenses.

We are pleased to report that for 2010 our direct fundraising cost was only 6 cents for every dollar we raised. The industry standard is 20 – 30 cents.

Our administration costs were also 6 cents per dollar. Individual’s salaries are accounted for in these costs.

Furthermore, when you designate your donation to a specific unit or department within the Regional Hospital, such as the Cape Breton Cancer Centre or the Pediatrics Unit, 96 cents of every dollar you give is used to purchase new equipment and complete enhancements to provide better care for Cape Bretoners.

When you make a donation to the Foundation, you are entrusting us with your hard-earned dollars and it is our responsibility to ensure that your donations are used wisely to provide better health care at the Regional Hospital. We want you to know that we are always open to discussing our costs and financial statements.
