Some Programs with Mental Health & Addiction Services Moving to New Locations

Some Sydney-based programs in Mental Health and Addiction Services will soon be trading spaces.

During the week of Feb. 2-6, Child and Adolescent Services at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and Addictions’ Community Based Services, Addiction Day Program and the Opioid Recovery Program at 235 Townsend Street will trade locations. The move is due to changing needs for the programs.

“This move has several advantages for clients accessing our services,” says Dr. Linda Courey, Director of Mental Health and Addiction Services with the Cape Breton District Health Authority.  “We believe that moving Child and Adolescent Services to the community will increase the engagement of this age group in treatment. Having Community Based Services, Addiction Day Program and some Opioid Recovery Program staff at the Regional site will support continued care for clients in treatment. It will also help with discharge planning for clients who are accessing other programs at the hospital.”

The move also supports the service’s ongoing plan to create integrated mental health and addiction teams, working together in one location.

During the week of the move (Feb. 2-6), Child and Adolescent Services and the Adult Mental Health Clinic located at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, and Addictions’ Community Based Services (located at Townsend Street) will not be operating. The Addiction Day Program and the Opioid Recovery Program, also located at Townsend Street, will have reduced days that week.  All other Mental Health and Addiction Services programs will continue as scheduled.

The contact numbers for all the programs involved in the move remains the same. Child & Adolescent Services can be reached at 902-567-7731. Addictions’ Community Based Services, Addiction Day Program and Opioid Recovery Program can be reached at 902-563-2590.
