SYDNEY, N.S – This Saturday, March 17th marks the twelfth annual Cape Breton Screaming Eagles’ Irish Jersey Raffle, in support of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles will host the Saint John Sea Dogs and will be sporting their custom designed green, Irish-themed jerseys, which are to be raffled off in support of the Cancer Patient Care Fund, in memory of past president Greg Lynch.

During the game, fans will be able to purchase tickets for a chance to win one of the green jerseys. Tickets are only $5 each and will be available only at Centre 200. The winning tickets will be drawn during the third period and the winners will join the Eagles on the ice.

"Every year the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles lace up in support of cancer care in Cape Breton and every year they amaze us with their commitment to this cause," says Brad Jacobs, CEO, Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. "This team shows us their commitment to healthcare year after year and we can’t thank them enough."

This fundraiser is in memory of Greg Lynch. Greg, a community-minded man, was a hockey lover and leaves a great legacy with this event. To date, $135,000 has been raised thanks to the support of the fans and sponsors: S & M Trucking, Cape Breton Beverages and ARL Mechanical.

One hundred percent of proceeds from the raffle stay in Cape Breton to support the Cancer Patient Care Fund to support patients in the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. This fund helps offset the financial difficulties related cancer by covering the cost of prescriptions, medical travel and other financial concerns for cancer patients. In 2017, the hospital foundation disbursed over $336,000 to Cape Bretoners in need of this fund. Since the fund’s inception, over $1.7 Million has been disbursed to Cape Bretoners.

Since 1992, the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation, in partnership with the community has raised more than $50 million to purchase equipment, and fund upgrades at the Regional Hospital. This has dramatically reduced wait times and provided an increased menu of services – closer to home. The Foundation has recently been accredited under Imagine Canada’s national Standards Program, which promotes transparency of charities and nonprofits, and strengthens public confidence in organizations and the sector as a whole. Thanks to the generosity of the Cape Breton community, our foundation has been able to purchase priority equipment and fund services which provide world-class care, closer to home.
