Tickets Now Available for First Cancer Patient Care Fund Benefit Concert Since Flood

CAPE BRETON, N.S – After a two-year hiatus, the Cancer Patient Care Fund Benefit Concert is back to support Cape Bretoners at their time of greatest need. A concert featuring some true East Coast talent will be taking place in support of cancer patients in Cape Breton.

In 2016, this concert was cancelled due to the Thanksgiving Day flooding and hasn’t taken place since, but the needs for the Cancer Patient Care Fund are growing. Organizers recognize that need and wanted to ensure the event came back. "We see the devastation cancer causes families in our community," says Liz Healy, event organizer. "So, we want to do what we can to alleviate some of the financial burden of that diagnosis." Healey and her committee organized this concert for six years prior to the flood and have raised more than $80,000 to date. "We know that cancer is expensive, we want to do our part to let patients focus on healing."

The Cancer Patient Care Fund, which has dispersed more than $1,700,000 since 2005, helps patients with anything from medications, not covered by medical insurance, to travel expenses or prostheses. Many patients face enormous financial barriers when dealing with a cancer diagnosis and this fund helps make things easier. "Cancer is costly," says Brad Jacobs, CEO of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. "Many families cannot afford the most basic necessities when they need them the most. With support from generous donors in our community, patients are given the opportunity to focus on wellness, not their finances."

This year’s event will be held Sunday, May 27th at Centre 200. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with a Wine & Cheese and the concert starting at 7:00 p.m.

Wendy Bergfeldt will be hosting the evening and entertainment includes: Belkolora Quintet for the Wine & Cheese, Dave Gunning, Kim Dunn, the MacArthur School of Dance, Kendra Gale Band, Fire Valley Fire, Joe Waye Band, Jordan Musycsyn Band, Rachel Davis & Darren McMullen. Tickets can be purchased at Centre 200 or online at https://tickets.capebreton.ca/
